How effective is a pepper spray keychain?
Why buy a pepper spray keychain
A pepper spray keychain can be very effective as a self defense weapon providing you 1. understand what effective. is 2. practice using it. Pepper spray doesnt make people fall down, slip on a banana peel and there is no laugh track with it. Leave that to the movies. Some people think its only effective if it takes someone down and this is not what its designed to do.
Pepper spray keychains are there to spray in the face of an attacker, cause a rapid swelling in the eyes, slamming them shut. No mention of pain or incapacitation for a reason. Why? because although its painful, it isnt what makes pepper spray effective self defense weapon. Some people tolerate pain better than others but even those people can be affected by pepper sprays inflamatory effect on the eyes. Its an inflamatory that can be used to give you the element of surprise as it were to temporarily take away a key asset of an attacker, his sight. Seeing through blury, swelling eyes is your chance to kick away, lock that door, run, whatever that situation calls for.
Effective is for those who understand its true function, so yes a pepper spray keychain or even a large pepper spray can be effective, if you know its a weapon of escaping harm, rather than taking someone down.
You have to practice using it or it will do you no good. Pepper spray is a weapon and it requires that you practice having it in your hand, spraying it and becoming versed in using it and why you are using it. You cannot take any weapon out of the box and expect simply having it, will afford you any protection. You must also develop the habit of when you walk out the door, its in your hand. Ladies this means not at the bottom of that bottomless pit of a purse. As a man who has asked for gum from my wife and watched her dig for what seemed to be 35 minutes, you know what I mean. It does you zero good to keep your pepper spray keychain in a bag or purse. It needs to be in hand, ready to use and this must be done every day, not just when you think about it.
When it comes to being attacked, the bad guy is the one in charge of your schedule. They pick the time and place. Your job is to follow good safety practices, keep you eyes open, head up, eyes off the cellphone, walk with both hands free of packages, looking like you would see faces and be able to indentify someone ( most bad guys, they look for the one unaware) and having a supportive self defense device like a pepper spray on your keychain ready.
Wasp Spray vs Pepper Spray
Wasp Spray vs Pepper Spray – Choose Pepper Spray
Wasp spray isnt effective as a self defense weapon. Wasp spray isnt designed for self defense. Wasp spray is for wasps. Wasp spray lacks the inflamatory agent to be effective. If wasp spray worked vs pepper spray, the police would be carrying wasp spray around. It truly doesnt work despite the comments online each and every day telling people to put a wasp spray near their beds for protection. Its irresponsible and wreckless. Also it clearly states that its to be only used for its intended purpose…which is to kill wasps so there may be legal ramifications using wasp spray instead of pepper spray. In the battle between wasp spray vs pepper spray, there is none. Pepper spray works, wasp spray does not. A keychain costs you $10 and is carried by police worldwide, dont risk it carrying a bug spray.
Which are the best pepper sprays for self-defense?
Best pepper spray brands
If used correctly, by that I mean its used for its real purpose which is to slam they eyes shut and escape, most made in the USA pepper sprays are good for self defense. Pepper Spray in self defense is to be used for defensive purposes only. Its to be used as a tool of escape. It will slam shut the eyes of a mugger/attacker so you can escape harm and call the police. Any other use, using it to then make a physical attack, get your martial arts moves on, it will not do much to help you. Its an element of surprise weapon that takes away vision and in time labored breathing. Make an attacker vulnerable long enough for you to get the heck out of there. Ask any law enforcement, military, martial arts instructor, they will tell you the same thing. Use it to escape. You arent there to subdue or grapple.
Now as for the best, there are about 40 brands. 10 of them being good ones. You want cheap, Pepper Shot and Wildfire are good low cost options.is another reputable brand and I prefer their gel sprays. More expensive, but shoot further than the average and are extremely hot. As for other brands, Fox Labs, Sabre, Vexor, Defense Technologies, Guard Dog Security are all great pepper sprays to choose from. I tell this often, nobody wants to spend a lot of money and I get that, just stay away from the $5 deals on Amazon and the like. If its sold at police supply stores, a store like mine that you can see 50 other stores carrying it, its a decent product. Buy a US made one whereever you buy it.
Is pepper spray ok for a man
Pepper Spray for Men
Whats manly is coming home to my family and using whatever non lethal option is available to do so. Pepper Spray isnt a weapon that has a gender. Both men and women use pepper spray throughout the world. As Ive said before and will do so at least 10 times times, if someone has issue with man protecting himself with pepper spray, that is their issue. Pepper spray is a super affordable self defense weapon and is considered non lethal and perfectly acceptable to be carried by women and men. If he is unsure, there are plenty of small ones that can clip to a belt and be hidden under a shirt. Ive even seen men carry the lipstick pepper sprays because they have a cap and they keep them in their shirt pockets as it looks like a lip balm.
What has the best stopping power, CS spray or pepper spray?
. Works faster and works on those under the influence of drugs and alcohol. As to stopping power, neither will “stop”. Pepper spray will slam the eyes closed, inflmae the nose, throat, cause pain, labored breathing and more. It will not take the complete fight out of anyone. Its a spray in the eyes, temporarily take their vision and get out of the way self defense weapon.
Is pepper spray the same as mace?
Pepper Spray vs Mace
Yes..and no. I’ll give a super quick explination.
No. Mace was originally a tear gas spray. It also happened to be the name of the company/brand behind that defense spray. Its a man made product produced and distributed by the Mace brand corporation. They were the first and found out that Mace didnt work on the intoxicated ( drugs or alcohol) or those who werent in a state to feel pain. They then took their trusted name and began making pepper spray. To add even more confusion to the mix, Mace also makes a triple action spray that contains both their original tear gas formula combined with pepper spray. Just think of it this way, if you were to reach on the shelf and grab a Mace spray, today you’d be grabbing simply a pepper spray made by Mace co.
As for the Yes, todaymakes pepper spray. 99% of their products are made using pepper spray and have gone away from their original tear gas based product. In fact Mace was the first so the name stuck and why people think a mace keychain, pepper spray keychain, macing or pepper spraying is the same thing. Think how everyone calls cola, Coke. Mace and pepper spray are used to now describe the same thing ( even though originally they were different things)
Mace is a man made tear gas,is a natual occurring extract from hot peppers. Today however if you say look at our site, you will see a seperate category for just Mace BRAND sprays ( of which they all contain pepper spray)
Hope this helped some, I typed quickly and wanted to make it simple because people do ask this a lot.
Taser for home defense
Which Taser for home protection
The Taser is a good option. I would suggest the. We could sell every Taser but for non lethal self defense, we feel its the best as it has a 30 second cycle. Taser even mentions firing it, making contact and dropping it to run as it goes for a 30 second duration. Law enforcement Tasers ( like the X26) dont have the duration because police are using it to temporarily stop a suspect with the ultimate goal of subdueing them. You arent in the subdue, take into custody business. You are in the escape harm business. Stop the immediate threat and put yourself into a postion to make your next move which would be to barricade in bedroom and call police, reach for a secondary weapon, run out of the house to neighbors, whatever the next move is for you.
What is the best taser for a female to carry
Best Taser for Women
The term taser and stun gun often get jumbled so not sure what you are looking for an answer on an actual Taser or Stun Gun so I will give you two options. Tasers are much more complex in design than a stun gun as stun guns mainly just use pain compliance, you have to forcibly hold it against an attacker where as a Taser doesnt require you to go hands on and works from a distance.
As mentioned in other posts, theis a great choice for womens self defense. Its small, light and intuitve. It looks like a gun, handles like one so its a draw and fire kind of device. Plus with a Taser should you miss, it can be used like a stun gun for close up defense. You actually get 2 weapons in one with a Taser. With the Taser pulse it also fires for 30 seconds. You can fire it, hit the target and drop it run, it will fire for 30 seconds.
Now if you are looking for a, which is a good device but you must understand requires you to hold it against someone for it to do anything. Its painful and designed to make them say ouch and let go of you kind of thing versus incapacitation for a period of time to escape. Taser can take someone down whereas a stun gun more than likely wont.
If you want to choose between a stun gun and taser, choose a Taser. Better distance, better stopping power and has the backup of a stun gun device as well
What is a home invasion
Home Invastion or Burglary
Both home invasion and burglary depending on where you read it, may all be lumped into one category, “home intrusion”. This phrase has been circulating as of late and mostly used by alarm companies as they flash statistics on the screen in order to sell you their product. Like many companies, they use fear. Now, I am not an attorney and will surely be corrected but to break your question down I will answer in common language as it has been explained to me.
Home Invasion – This is 1. Generally done in evening hours, forcibly done by someone(s) who want to take cash, drugs and usually the ones that become violent. 2. These usually are the violent ones because they are done when someone is home, more aggressive as they are there looking for cash or drugs.
There are things you can do to lessen your fears should there be some. 1. Lock you doors, always. 2. Improve your door security with aplate or a if nothing else. 3. Install a and place signs on all 4 sides of your home. 4. install motion lights. 5. install security cameras. 6. Get a dog. Crooks, burglars, criminals, you name it, hate dogs. They bark, they alert and nobody wants to tangle with a dog. 7. Install ( and you will have to search for this, a Door Guardian) I think I put the link in another post. This will give you a 3rd lock on your door that cannot be accessed from the outside and when placed higher than the deadbolt increases the amount of pressure needed to force the door open. Shouldnt cost you most than $20 max and installs in minutes.
Burglary – This where a burglar breaks in usually with the sole purpose of stealing items and getting out fast. These are done usually during the day when you are at work. Burglars want to get in, get out undetected, get whatever they can grab and not get caught. Again usually done during work hours when there isnt any resistance. take the above mentioned steps to help lessen your chances of being burglarized.
What type of pepper spray to protect from dogs
Pepper Spray for use on Dogs
For one, buy a. A pepper spray formulated for use on canines. Second choose stream pattern. Stream will be less affected by wind and less of a chance you will the one wearing it. Stream is a more controlled spray pattern ( think of a squirt gun) where it comes out long and thin so you can still accurately aim it, with less chance of it blowing back in your face.

How effective is bear pepper spray
how effective is bear spray
How effective is bear spray? Well on bears, very effective. In fact there have been some studies done that found bear spray is more effective against bears than a gun. Why? a bullet requires aim and despite those out there who thinks guns solves every problem in the universe, you are talking something the size of for illustration purposes.. a tic tac sized obejct trying to stop a bear! Bear pepper spray shoots at a high velocity in a fog pattern that has a wide dispersion area and covers more territory than a singular bullet would. Yes I know guns fire more than one bullet. Ask anyone who has seen combat and ask them under duress how many bullets it takes to stop a human versus under controlled conditions at a target range. For those marksmen out there, Annie Oakleys who think they can shoot a charging bear, again ask a combat trained seal, swat or veteran of combat and ask them how fast a man can cover a 20 foot distance at you. Now compare that to a bear! They will cover more ground in a blink than you will thinking youre James Bond reaching for your gun. Bear attacks happen in a flash and you’ll be quite frankly lucky to fire off a bear spray let alone a gun. I dont write these answers to sell more stuff. Sure it would be great as I like you have bills. But people need to take the advice from people who have used this, sell it, people in the field and not a gun chat room or twitter for their answers. I’ll do you one better, I will direct you AWAY from my store so you can see for yourself that bear spray is more effective than a gun at defense against a bear attack. Products I dont even sell to prove my point. I will include a link to an article at Mace. I sell it but happy if you buy it from them just as well. Theres also UDAP bear spray. Created by a bear attack survivor that used a conventional human grade pepper spray during an attack and became so obessed with bear attacks and pepper spray created his own company. The Mace link (below) will also cite the study conducted that bear spray is the best deterrent to bear attacks. Lets be honest, we are talking freakin bears here. The best way to protect yourself, stay indoors, lol. But, if you live in the woods, frequent the woods, 1. you already know to be on the lookout and see potential problems BEFORE they arise 2. If youre going to go out in the woods, bring a bear spray and keep it in a holster ready to grab and use immediately. Bear spray was proven effective on aggressive bears 94% of the time on grizzlies and 100% on black bears in an Alaskan study over a 20 year period.
If you were wearing sunglasses, would you be protected from pepper spray?
Does pepper spray work on someone wearing glasses
Pepper spray fires from a pressurized canister. The over spray will generally make enough contact to be effective even on those wearing any type of glasses. The best place to hit someone it directly in the eyes. This will then affect the nose as well because of the proximity to the eyes. Since most people under duress are not marksmen with the spray, it truly just has to be close to the eyes to work. So just below or above the glasses and with the splattering of the pressurized spray you will feel the pepper spray just as anyone else would.
What security measures can I add to my home
How to add security to your home
Where to begin?
- Is the home occupied?
- Do they have visible signs of a security system?
- Are their curtains/blinds open giving me a clear look at to entry/exit points? Where they are inside the home if they are home? What items they have for me to steal? Is there an 80 inch TV and a Ferrari in the open garage and tools for me to just walk up and steal or even use to break in?
Question is a little vague. If youre asking what can you do to prevent being a target? The key to that is not showing anything to the street someone would want to take and putting your everything on display for them to visually inventory AND…making your home difficult to enter and them more easily caught/seen if they do try. I’ll expand.
Keep your darn garage door closed! Everyone leaves this open and its a the largest door in your home! Close it. I can walk or drive by and see $1000’s of tools, whether your car is there and youre home and the often times unlocked door that leads into your home! Think of the garage door as the fly to you pants, not walking around letting everyone see whats inside…same premise. I can even use your tools to break in! That ladder is what I would use to reach your 2nd story open window! Close. Garage. Door.
Pick up. Dont leave your mail, newspaper and trash cans out by the road. It looks like you arent home and that the house is empty and ripe for the picking. Dont throw out that new stereo box (or any high dollar item box) by just leaving it next to your trash cans. A good burglar loves trash day especially just after Xmas. You are showing them whats inside to steal! That 80 inch TV box laying at the end of the driveway might as well be a billboard saying guess what I have just beyond my front door, come take it. Cut it up in pieces, bag it up. Theres no need to display what you have for everyone to see.
Trim bushes and shrubs. Mow the lawn. Someone must be there, they keep the house up and care about it. Sure this may indicate you have pride and nice things inside I get that, but guess what else it tells a burglar…. I am more likely to have a security system keeping my manicured and well kept house protected! Make sense? Take away cover and places to hide. Said this so much I am hoarse, burglars want easy in and out and places to hide. None of them want to be cause so that bush that blocks the view of your side garage door from the eyes of passer bys on the street. Cut it down. Put the bad guy on display so they look out of place. More eyes that can possibly see them doing their bad stuff, more chances of being caught and thus less chance they choose your home.
Install motion lights. Put them on display. In a quiet tightly packed neighborhood and its dark out to suddenly be well lit and seen it a burglars kryptonite. They want to be unseen unheard.
Install securty cameras and signs indicating you have them. Nobody wants a witness and security cameras are ever vigiliant witnesses that keep a record. They can be expensive but there are some affordable options one I really like is Zmodo. Its not top of the line like a banks security cameras as those cost thousands. But they have a nice whats called POE power over ethernet cable that you plug one end into the recorder one end into the camera. It supplies the video and power all in one cable. Looks like a hard line phone cable or cable on your computer that clicks in on each end and is super easy to install. One clearly labeled slot for camera one, camera two and so on. plug one cable in one slot, attach the end to the camera and it records both day and night. Its one of the most affordable and the easiest one I have seen yet to install. Its litterally one end goes to the box, one to the camera. If you can charge your Iphone, you can install a Zmodo security camera. They even have an app you can check on your home, get notified. I dont even sell them and its one of my favorites and less cables and hassle. It tells a burglar I may or may not be home, but I am watching you. Plus they are fun. You can be indoors while the dog plays in the back yard and you can monitor them.
Add alarms to every window and door. Make every entry point one that will alert you to the presence of someone coming in. Make every entry point a bad choice and place stickers on every door and window. Tell them hey its going to be loud and draw attention to you if you mess with this house.
Install motion sensors. Have you ever broken a glass in your kitchen? Was it loud enough to wake neighbors? No. That old school thought of someone wont break the window because it makes so much noise is wrong. It makes very little noise. Take a second right now and listen to what you hear outside your home. You hear dogs, cars, people, wind…all of which you tune out because they are normal and a constant. Well guess what, so do your neighbors. They live right next to you and hear the same sounds. They , like you, will more than likley not hear the window breaking. The motion sensor more than likely wont be enough that they will hear that either. The motion sensor is for you and the burglar. They hear it and think Uh Oh.. and you wake up and take action. Motion sensors are for you to grab your home defense pepper spray, weapon of choice, jump up and block the bedroom door and call 911. You are not relying on the sound to ask your neighbors for help. They cant help you. One you hear the an alarm be it the window or the interior motion sensor….your.home. Its a measure to get you into a defensive position. Slam the bedroom door closed, dial 911 and grab a weapon until police arrive. Its to give you 3 seconds you might not have had.
Strengthen your doors immediately. #1 point of entry? Doors. Who wants to climb in a window when you can give a swift kick and enter on two feet? Your doors have a weak point, EVERY door has this weak point. The deadbolt hole in the frame and the holes made to accomodate the hardware on the door are all weak points that can be kicked in with very little force that an average sized man can produce. Just think. You took a solid piece and put holes in it.. Its a slender piece of powder coated steel that attaches to your door frame to prevent kick ins. Look at your door tonight and see on either side of the hole, just a thin area of wood. This is where it splits. In this picture you can see the lock area and frame is what splits under pressure. This is all the separates you from the outdoors and most will never know this. Locks dont keep bad people out, just us when we lose our keys. A door devil mounts in minutes. It attaches to the frame and around the weak points of the lock and knob area to help prevent splitting. We are talking some screws here and its very easy to do and we carry this versus other door reinforcment products because theur instructions are simply the best. Clear and easy. Door Devil has very long screws that reach past the frame into the studs behind it for strength. So now when someone kicks they arent up against an inch of wood, theyre up against a long piece of steel on the weak points. Its all about making it harder for them, delaying them and making your home the hardest to enter on the block. Imagine the noise of now instead of one kick that may go unnoticed to them standing outside making several? Thats what security is. Making their attempts a bad choice.
Look at the locksmith video below its about 1 min long, you will see a metal door frame plate like the door devil along with a door guarding lock.
Install a night lock that cannot be accessed from the outside. The Door Guardian is one of the best I have seen. I have them on all my doors at home. Give you a 3rd point of resistance, installs with long screws that hit the studs and add increased strength and cannot be picked because they are only on the inside. 3 screws and about truly all of 5 minutes. Mark holes with a pencil, Pre drill the holes, screw it in. Goes right against the frame and when you flip the lock over it presses the door closed. So when forced is applied its up higher as if someone constantly has a hand on the door. Supports tremendous amounts of force resistance, theyre about $20 and nobody can pick it or lock bump it ( for another time, look up lock bumping in Google search. You will see its a quiet way to get past a lock without forced entry and it will be just like they used a key) why I suggest door guardian, theres nothing to bump of pick. It mounts to the frame, flips away when open ( bottom picture) and flips over when in use to picture. They dont look obtrusive you can mount it higher up than in the picture about 18 inches above the deadbolt ( thats just a demo picture). No keys, no picking the lock, locks from the inside. They are a great product. They are even now available under a private label name at Home Depot ( not sure what they are called there) but the original is called The Door Guardian. At home depot its with the childproof locks, door chains ( which do not work and are easily defeated so dont waste your time) It was originally designed as a child proof lock that they couldnt reach, for alzheimers patients as well but found to be a good security device. Watch the video and you will be sold. Keep in mind that is a demo door, not a full sized door. You dont have to install it at the top corner. You will also notice in this video there is a steel door frame plate he must have already installed like the Door Devil I mentioned above. Can hardly see it and makes the frame strong.
This is another video that gives you a consumers installation and closer view of how a door guardian works. Again I would install above the deadbolt not so low and add a door devil for even more protection.
Get a security system and place the signs on all 4 sides of your home. Make a clear statement that police will be called and theres an increased chance of people hearing the noise and this home isnt a wise choice to mess with. Always turn it on. If you are home have it on. Crime doesnt punch a time card so only turning it on when you fall asleep watching the late show…if you are home at 5 each evening, turn it on at 5 pm. It only works when its armed so arm it always, not selectively. Buy a. VERY easy to install, offers monitored security ( not having a montiored system is like having a gun with no bullets).
Buy and this is your choice some sort of protection be it lethal or non lethal. Buy ato cover doorways and defend yourself until police arrive.
You cannot stop burglaries. Only make it less attractive and harder so they choose elsewhere to do their stealing. Make them go elsewhere, not your house.
Hope this helps some.
Is pepper spray an effective deterrent against coyotes or wolves?
Bear Spray on other animals
In most cases and not to get into hypothetical if you are asking does pepper spray work on canines, wolves, etc. Yes. If you are a hiker or camper, and holster. Theres bear pepper spray and it comes in a large canister that disperses a large amount in a fog pattern style that deters bears. There is also dog pepper spray specifically designed for dog attacks but comes in a smaller keychain style. I would guess both would be ok on wolves but the dog pepper spray fires a stream and doesnt have the distance or large dispersion like the bear pepper spray does. Hotter and more of it, I would choose bear spray on wolves.
How much electricity do motion sensors use?
About Motion Sensors
Little to none. Most motion sensors that are hardwired are low voltage to begin with but todays security systems? Many are battery operated using little to no electricity at all. Most have long lasting lithium batteries that out last the conventional alakaline batteries of old. But if you are asking about hard wired motion sensors, they use very little power at all, much like a low voltage door bell. If youre looking for a security system, consider looking at . Battery powered and simple to install.
How to test a stun gun? Is it safe
Testing Stun Guns
Test firing and test firing on a person, two different things. Test firing is a good idea and I would suggest only doing so for under a second to make sure there is an visual electrical arc. Doing so for longer or dry firing it for any prolonged period of time could result in damaging the device.
Testing on a person I would say not safe. By design stun guns are meant to be non lethal and have a temporary impact. This is not to say there couldnt be someone that has a bad heart on the receiving end. If this person with a bad heart was a mugger you defended yourself from and they have complications, you were defending yourself and its an unfortunate result. If you test on a friend “just to see what happens’ and THEY have a bad heart and they have complications there are too many bad things to list why this would be a bad idea and not “safe”.
Chances are if you see the blue electrical arc between probes your stun gun is working so testing it on someone is a very bad idea. It is afterall a weapon and to be used solely for self defense. Again if you want to dry fire it to make sure its charged, under 1 second or just a quick pulse to ensure its working. Other than that think of it like a gun, you wouldnt test it. I realize the inherent “I wonder what would happen” as I have fired many stun guns and as a guy the sound, blue arc is still well, neat to see. We are taught never to be around electricity because its dangerous and here we are with a electricity on our hands? I get it. But dont test on anyone it could prove to be dangerous in many ways. How much do pepper spray, stun guns, and tasers help someone being attacked?
Stun guns, pepper spray, tasers can help protect you when you are attacked but its important that you train, practice using them under pressure, use them to escape to safety not stay and fight and follow basic self defense techniques that include awareness and good safety practices.
Train with your self defense weapon of choice
You can’t just buy stun guns and not practice using it. To be effective stun guns need not only to be held against your attacker for several seconds, you need to hit sensitive targets areas, know where those areas are and practice, practice, practice. A pepper spray is the same way. You have to practice using it, always have it in your hands ready to use and be aware, see the attack coming so you have time to deploy it. Taser, the same thing. If you dont practice using any self defense weapon it wont help you when being attacked. The purchase without lifestyle changes, getting in the habit of every day having it ready for use and practice, they are all as useful as a door knob.
Practice using under pressure and stress
You wont be using a pepper spray, stun gun or taser in your backyard. You will be using it under high stress. If you dont practice using it with this in mind, they will do you zero good. Any self defense requires practice. Using a pepper spray is like martial arts, you must train and practice using under pressure and stress.
Dont fight, Run!
Your goal isnt to fight back, its to run. A big mistake is to think because you purchase a protection product like a taser, or stun gun that you are tough or able to fight off an attacker. Your mindset is and should be survival and escape always. This isnt saying dont defend yourself, but your goal isnt to deploy the pepper spray so you can get your licks in, its to spray and get away. A stun gun is to get them off you so you can kick away and run for help. These are all defensive weapons, not offensive weapons.
Practice being aware and good safety techiniques
Practice every day being aware, keep your head up and not buried in your phone. Good safety techniques give you the presence that you are aware, looking around, ready to defense yourself. These are all things a mugger doesnt want to see in a target. They want you texting, parking in poor lighting, walking with your head down. Dont looking for things in your purse until you are inside the store. Cannot count how many times I see a woman walking, head down digging for her shopping list. Doors remain locked while you are in the car at all times. Keep your hands free of packages and ready to protect yourself. A non victim is a hard target. Youve heard the phrase “an easy mark”? Look like you could punch back, look like you can see them coming, look like you arent daydreaming or on your phone. Send the message you are ready for them and they will look for someone who isnt.
Self defense weapons like pepper spray, stun guns, tasers are all supplemental devices to help protect you. They alone cannot do the job.
Pepper Spray or Tear Gas
Which is better Pepper Spray or Tear Gas
Both are non lethal irritants. CS gas commonly called Tear Gas produces severe coughing, eye watering. However its not effective against those under the influence of drugs or alchol who may have a heightened pain tolerance. This is why you will rarely see any tear gas as a stand alone product outside of the military that uses it to force people from buildings or more of a riot control agent. It works more slowly than pepper spray and again someone who doesnt feel pain, it can have little effect.
Pepper Spray works quickly, more quickly than tear gas and has an involuntary response that even those under the influence are affected by it. Even Mace who originally used a tear gas as the original defense spray has become a leader in using pepper spray. They even have blended formulas which work great because you are hitting them with a double punch.
If you are at an army surplus store or looking online whats best between the two, choose a pepper spray. Its faster, doesnt rely on pain to be effective. Whether you are The Rock or Pee Wee Herman ( no offense Pee Wee) pepper spray will make your eyes close and cause the mucous membranes in the nasal passages to swell up.
The main difference between the two is that pepper spray works on more subjects and works faster. Tear Gas is usually used by law enforcement or military and shot from a grenade to deliver in large doses, pepper spray is an aersol and usually in a hand held device ( like a keychain or home defense sized canister)
So in short, Pepper Spray is cheaper, more effective, works faster. The blended formulas like Mace Triple Action that has Pepper Spray, Tear Gas and UV dye to mark an attacker, these have been effective and on the market for years. I always like to choose just a straight pepper spray but for those who want the added feeling of giving an attacker a double whammy…choose a triple action mace model with both tear gas and pepper spray.
If you ask anyone who has been in the miliary or law enforcement that gets exposed to both tear gas and pepper spray, they will more than likely agree they would prefer to be hit with tear gas as pepper spray is simply a brutal long lasting feeling and far more effective.
If you are attacked by a bear, which weapon is better? gun or bear pepper spray?
Gun or Bear Spray?
Several studies suggest that using a bear spray is more effective than using a gun. Without having to write it myself, here is a link to a great answer from Mace.
Bear Spray for home defense
Bear Mace as home defense?
Please note none of my answers are legal advise. With that said I would say no. Do not use bear mace to defend your home. Why? There are plenty of home defense pepper spray foggers to choose from that are designed for lawful self defense. We do have a right to protect our lives and our homes of course, but I would suggest if you want to choose pepper spray to defense your home, buy a home defense fogger. We carry a Wildfire Pepper Spray which is very hot and comes in a one pound canister. It has a super easy to use pistol grip design and would be a fine choice for defending say an open doorway of your home because of its fogger spray pattern. Its large, holds a lot of pepper spray and its economical given its long shelf life and unlike other devices, no need for battries or accessories. We also carry a Mace Gel in a similar canister thats a fast spraying thick gel that sticks where you spray it and many choose this because its a thinner spray and unlike the fogger style is less contaminating. Now if your life was in danger and again not an attorney, I truly do not know if using bear mace is good or bad. What I do know for every lawful self defense event, there is a crazy story ( which I am sure youve heard) where someone protects their home and they get sued. Better to err on the side of doing everything you can to show you never meant harm, only to defend and illustrate this by buying a pepper spray made for use against humans that is considered a non lethal device. Or go the route of getting a permit and owning a gun however this does increase legal ramifications as we all know.
What you may want to do is while home security and safety is already on your mind, improve your home security as well. A home security system is affordable now as there are so many options out there. We offer LiveWatch. It has a SUPER easy install, has good montioring that has a fast response time. I know I will catch heat for saying wait on the police to protect you and this isnt just what I mean by response time. While you are waiting for the police, this reduces the time you have to defend yourself. The alarm goes off, someone is already in your home. You do need a way to defend yourself on top of having an alarm. It make take them 10 minutes to reach you but they bad guy will know you have back up coming while you are making your defense stand.
You can add some security to your doors with a simple to install item like the door devil which helps prevent door kick ins seen in burglaries. The most common entry point for a burglar, invader, whatnot are your doors. Bad guys are lazy and do not want to climb through windows, break glass, or be seen smashing it by neighbors. they want a swift kick and come in through the front or back door. Passer bys will just see someone walking and it will look as if someone who is supposed to be there is entering the home as per usual. Many do not know this, weve all seen it in movies where they kick down the door and it looks easy? Its not as easy as on TV but its far less hard than you think. Theres only about a half inch to inch of wood between you and the outside world. Think about that. 1 inch of wood. Open your door and look where the deadbolt hole in the frame is. Look to the left and right and you will see its probably less than an inch. THIS IS THE FAILURE POINT AND THE POINT WHERE THEY KICK. Why? because you have already hollowed it out to accomadate the deadbolt and they know this. Its wood with a hole in it, of course its weak. You can buy a $200 deadbolt or a $30 one and its the same weakened area they will kick in. It snaps under a suprisingly low amount of force. Door Devil makes that frame area, weak area around the knobs using a slender, astheticly pleasing piece of poweder coated steel and long screwws that reach past that weakend wood area into the studs behind the doorframe for strength. You can add even more security by adding a Door Guardian which we do not carry ( our distributor has been out) but look it up, its a night time lock that flips over the edge of the door and can withstand 1000’s of pounds of pressure and defend against picked locks and what is called lock bumping (for another time). Lock bumping in short is a simple way to take a false key or “bump” key tap the lock and the cylinder opens up like the owners key is in use. Its quiet and will never show forced entry and someone will be in your home in seconds. Why we suggest and use ourselves the Door Guardian. I believe even Home Depot now sells it under another name but same device. Its three long screws and takes under 5 minutes to install and makes your door stronger and cannot be opened from the outside. DO NOT BUY A DOOR CHAIN or a HOTEL LOCK. THEY DO NOT WORK and only surface mount. An 8 year old can kick those in. Get a Door Devil and Door Guardian and your doors will be not 100% because nothing is 100% certain but it will be one of the hardest to enter on the block and make it so diffiuclt to enter, a bad guy may just leave because they want quiet, fast and easy. You can also add some battery powered alarms to each entry point, doors & windows and install an affordable door brace.
Dont forget to add at minimum some battery powered glass breaker alarms to windows, keep newspapers and trash cans picked up, your garage door closed and trims bushes down below the window sills. This takes away cover and hiding places. Install some motion lights around your home. We suggest motion lights versus always on lights because if they are always on, you may just be giving a burglar free lighting and an easy way to see where they need to go. Versus making them fumble around in the dark only to be all of a sudden put “under the spotlight” drawing that unwanted attention they were trying to avoid. Some great products out there like the Ring spotlight/camera. Serves as an all day visual deterrent telling burglars “we see you”. Being safe at home isnt just having a weapon or the right weapon. Its payers of security and most of all making sure you do everything you can to make their job harder so they seek easier targets. Drive your neighborhood today and see how many open garage doors there are, things not picked up, un trimmed hedges, hiding spots. Think how you would enter? Most of us dont think like criminals so we often dont think of the best ways to protect ourselves and our homes. Layers and layers. Example take the hiding spots away, take their element of surprise away with motion lights, make them have to pound on your door 10 times more than the neighbors house with weak doors and make such a racket you wake up and call 911 and grab your pepper spray before they even get in. These arent the only things you can do, but the easiest. You can even place larger dressers in that back bedroom away from where you sleep halfway blocking the window. Little calculated things most would never notice but If i were to crawl into a window, not going to be the one with only a quarter of the way opening because theres an entertainment center in the way. perfect example, the headboard oftens entends above the window sill. Nobody is going to try and hurdle it, they will look for a back bedroom one if they are forced to climb in. So many little things you can do and only reason I went on about home security is to stress the point it isnt about whether you choose a weapon, its about choosing to make it a place nobody wants to mess with in the first place
What are the health effects of bear spray being used on humans?
Using Bear Spray on Humans
If you are asking whether it works on humans or what happens when a human is sprayed with bear spray? Let me answer that from that angle, but before I do let me be clear on one thing, Never use bear spray on humans. You could be setting yourself up for legal problems as they are designed for use on bears only, labeled that you are not to use it for anything other than its intended use and there really is no need for it as there are more than sufficient human grade pepper sprays that you can buy legally for self defense.
Now, the effects ofon humans is the same as a regular pepper spray. First being an involuntary slamming shut of the eyes. This is from the rapid swelling of the capillaries in the eyes. they swell rapidly our brains say quickly close them. I always compare it so it makes sense in text to shampoo in the eyes. The instant you feel a sting what do you do? Slam your eyes shut. Our brain automatically puts our body parts in defense mode. Its involuntary really. Pepper spray does the exact same thing to a MUCH higher degree, with MUCH higher pain and rapid results ( which is why its a time tested self defense weapon because its main use it to take away vision so you can escape). Again first is the eyes. They experience an involuntary closure followed by immense pain. I equated that to hot glass shards in the eye. Bear spray does the same thing. While you are more than likely freaking out about your eyes, your nose begins to fill with well, snot. To a degree it feels as though you have shoved cotton balls up it and now your throat is beginning to swell because you have inhaled it. So eyes, nose, throat. You will begin to drain what appears to be a never ending flow of thick mucous(snot) start coughing, tearing up and trying to natually fight these feelings of pain, confusion and panic. By now you are having labored breathing as well. This all sounds fun, huh.
So its eyes, nose, throat/mouth…burning eyes, filled/overwhelming congested feeling in nose& throat, followed by lungs and labored breathing. Now imagine if you chose to use something for a Grizzly Bear on a human? Bear spray is quite strong given its designed for bears so using it on a person could be considered excessive use of force. Always buy a human gradefor self defense and if you can avoid it, never experience pepper spray. The feelings described about lasted and varied by brand by just a few minutes here and there, about 30–45 minutes.
What are the dangers of using bear pepper spray on humans?
Bear Spray on Humans
Some bear pepepr sprays are labeled with a disclaimer that states do not use for anything other than its intended purpose. You will also find labels like this on spray paint cans, wasp sprays and other aerosols. So using a Bear spray on a Human… you could find the real danger is one of a legal nature. Bear spray is intended for use on bears only, not humans and could run the risk of being excessive for most situations. Example someone using a gun on someone coming at the with a rolled up newspaper..might be consider too much! Extreme example but you get the premise. Now as for will it work on a human, yes it will. Its rated at a high (MC) Major Capsaicinoid percentage because again its for use on Bears! So its quite strong to say the least. Anyone who has ever fired it and felt just a whiff of the over spray can attest to this. Now if your question is more than curiosity and are looking for something in a large pepper spray for say home protection, there are large fogger canisters of pepper spray that are designed for defense against humans. Though they are very similar you would be justified in using them because you purchased responsibly a self defense spray for its intended use, lawful self defense. Plus choosing a pepper spray shows that you took the initiative to purchase something non lethal in the first place. This way if you were to use it and say someone tripped over a curb and cracked their skull, it wasnt a result of you being reckless, out for justice, or that your intentions were to do harm versus looking to protect yourself safely and avoid trouble all together. As for the above mentioned MC percentage, without getting into the detailed just what that means I will give you simple numbers to illustrate the point. A regular keychain pepper spray is rated at .50 to 1.4 and a bear spray is generally from 1.0 to 2.0. Without knowing what those numbers mean, just think of it like this. A keychain that can stop a human attacker is about half (.50) and a bear spray is in many cases double that (1.0). Might not seem like much but I can assure you its a percentage of the potent stuff inside the canister so it matters. But with that said, now think of why you would ever need to use a bear spray on a person? If a 1.0 stops a grizzly which is 5 times larger than I am, a regular keychain at .50 percent should stop a person. So there really is no need to ever use bear spray on a person at all. If you want really hot, “human” grade pepper spray for protection, look at the black labeled canisters of Mace on our site. They are 1.4 MC rated. Using my brief example above its as strong as bear spray! Mace gel is very concentrated and extremely hot without you ever running the risk of why did you use grizzly bear spray on a person. Here is a link to maximum strength in a large home defense canister.
I should include something about MC rating, what MC and Scoville Ratings ( SHU) The MC rating is what makes it hot. In my example above though I tried to be brief, its hard to explain without detail.
MC: Major Capsaicinoids are the chemical components of peppers that make them hot. Measuring by MC is a laboratory conducted and very accurate test for gauging hotness.
OC: Oleoresin Capsicum is the oil extracted from the pepper that contains within it the Major Capsaciniods. This is not how to rate the hotness of a spray. A 10% OC can be much hotter than a 20% OC pepper spray. This is why you will see a majority of 10% pepper sprays on our site. Its the formula not the OC rating itself that makes it hot. Example: If you put 1% of jalepenos on your nachos versus 20% of green bell peppers on it, the 1% is going to be WAY hotter despite being a MUCH lower number. Its amount of the hot stuff the ( MC Major Capsaicinoids as listed above that makes pepper spray hot)
SHU: Scoville Heat Units were invented in 1912 by a pharmacist named Wilbur Scoville. These units measure the amount of capsaicin (the chemical that provides the heat) in a pepper. Measuring by SHUs (Scoville Heat Units) is a subjective taste test. Pepper spray companies always rate their spray this way. The problem with SHU is they are measuring the SHU rating for the O.C. and not the contents of the can. This means companies use an O.C. rated at 5 million SHU and it sounds extremely hot, but then they don’t put much of it in the can of pepper spray so it really ends up not hot at all.
Is it legal to carry pepper spray in New York City?
Pepper Spray Legal In New York
Yes. However you must purchase locally from a licensed firearms dealer. It cannot be shipped or purchase from an online retailer.
Would any person really spray pepper into the eyes of another human being?
Do people really buy and use Pepper Spray
Yes. Especially if they wanted to escape being assaulted or raped. In fact pepper spray is one of the most widely sold self defense weapons on the market. Its effective, costs very little and anyone regardless of their size and strength can use it. So I would ( not solely because I sell it) hope that a woman or a man would spray pepper spray into the eyes of another human being when being attacked. The police have been using it for over 40 years now because it works. Carry a pepper spray on your keychain as a daily habit promotes good situational awareness and makes you more likely to have yourself ready, looking for trouble before it even finds you. I have spoken with countless women who have put down the phone and now walk with their heads up, looking aware, standing tall with their pepper sprays in their hands with confidence. Most targets are those looking like they are unaware. Bad guys are extremely lazy and will chose the woman texting, with her head down in the trunk and especially a woman with her hands full not paying attention. A woman with ain hand, both hands unburdened by packages, head up and looking around screams the message of I am not the one you should choose to attack. Many women find it empowering to know despite their size they have an effective, non lethal means in which to defend themselves against violent attacks. So yes people really use pepper spray, I have used pepper spray as a security guard and it not only worked it saved a life.
Can a taser render someone unconscious?
Can a Taser knock someone out?
No. In general a Taser is not known to cause loss of consciousness.were designed to cause temporary incapacitation only, not knock someone out cold. In fact a Taser was designed so that nearly immediately after the “pulse” or “shock” is delivered most people are fine without any lasting effects. In other words once the electricity is deliverd for the 30 seconds, its over at the end of 30 seconds and the subject, attacker is fine. However like any stun device or self defense weapon there are secondary injuries that can occur. You could use the Taser on someone at the edge of a staircase and they could slip, fall and crack their head…but the Taser itself is not the root cause of the injury.
Which is worse, to be pepper spray or tasered
Pepper Spray or Taser
Lets first start by saying both are awful. Given the option however I would choose to be hit with a every single day for a month than ever be sprayed with pepper spray. I may not be doing justice how awful feels so I will try my best. Ever get shampoo in your eyes in the shower? It stings, feels like something is in your eyes often times well after you rinse it? Now. imagine that tiny sting, magnify it by 10,000 times and that feeling lasts for 30 plus minutes. Keeping in mind pepper spray feels more like hot glass shards. The capilaries in the eyes swell. I say again the capilaries swell up. Ever see a boxers eye. Imagine what that looks like, but with pepper spray it only feels that way. An acute inner eye swelling that feels like a bus in parked in your eyes and that bus is on fire and rolled in nails. Lets not even discuss the clean up and when you do try and wash it off it runs down your face, neck, chest and more casuing a burning sensation everywhere the pepper spray lands. So swollen eyes, painful burning and now your skin feels like its on fire too. Did I mention nose, mouth, throat and lungs? Well while the pepper spray is giving you its gentle kiss of burning pain, your nose runs like a snot faucet. Gross, but true. You need your nose to breathe! Your nose is now filled like someone stuffed a wash cloth inside of it so deep its touching your brain! Now for the fun part. Your throat begins to close up, mild natural panic sets in because its in your nose, throat and lungs and you are having trouble breathing. Fun right? Now keep in mind it take about 2 to 3 seconds for the eyes to close and everything past that takes a few more minutes and this only intensifies for the and I’m being conservative, 20 solid minutes. Imagine me drilling on a bad tooth for 20 solid minutes, it feels like an eternity. Pepper spray will make you feel like youve been stabbed in the eyes while being held under water, water thats also scorching hot. Taser is like being licked by a puppy in comparison. Which is better, TASER.
Is a low quality stun gun still good and durable?
Buying a quality stun gun – Our response on Quora
Well anything of low quality more than likely would not be durable. As to what I think you are asking is are inexpensive stun guns effective and durable maybe? The answer is yes. Stun guns are durable and meant to last a very long time. To address some of the comments to this post, yes most are made in China (along with everything else). Do they work, yes. are a weapon of pain compliance and require you to push the metal prongs into the body of an attacker for it to be effective. Its a close up self defense weapon that requires hands on use. They force electrical current into the body. This dump of electrical current burns the sugars your muscles need for fuel causing a great fatigue and they are very painful. You know the static shock you get when someone rubs their feet on the carpet then touches you. Imagine that multiplied by a million. Stun Guns make an attacker back off. It isnt and never was designed to kill or injure but to be used for lawful self defense to get them off of you, so you can escape to safety. Most personal stun guns are inexpensive because they do not cost alot to manufacture, not because they are low in quality. Its just some electrical parts placed inside a plastic shell. Just like any personal radio, walkie talkie, etc. No different to produce a flashlight than it is a stun gun which is why you see low price points. There are however some leading brands that have been on the market for some time so I would suggest if not getting it from me that you still stick with these brands. They are consumer tested and have a higher likelyhood that they are of quality enough to produce desired results. In other words, dont cheap out when it comes to a stun gun. The saving $4 here and there long term isnt a wise choice. I get several emails telling me every day they saw something similar or even the same product for $3 less on Amazon. Then when I look its a brand nobody has ever heard of so its not the same and theres zero information on it. Look at our site, see the brands, we invite you to look at the other stores and see that they too are selling the same brands. Why? because they are quality products at affordable prices. If 10 stores are selling the same thing, for around the same cost you can then make the calculated assumption that this is the fair price point, that if this many stores are putting their reputation behind these products, chances are they are good products. Like I tell nearly every customer, savings $3 here or saving your life, which is more important. Buying a Stun Master brand which is sold worldwide for $20 or buying a Bobs Super Deluxe brand for $15 thats only sold in this one place, only on Amazon. That $5 over a 2 year period which is a conservative amount of time that your stun gun will last, isnt going to put you in the poor house. Shop around, see what other stores have, make an informed decision and you will find inexpensive doesnt mean low quality and that quality doesnt mean the most expensive and this is certainly true with stun guns. Always purchase from a direct website and not a super store or marketplace. You want service after the sale and to know that the money you spent matters. As a consumer this is true for any purchase. Your dollars are leverage for later in the event you ever have issue with your product you know the store earned your money and has a reputation to protect and will be willing to go the extra mile and do all they can to help you. A market place full of world wide sellers that doesnt even have a way to contact them, chances are they will take your $20 and you will spend more time trying to reach them if your device fails, have trouble using it or simply want more information. Shop small when buying a self defense weapon. Even if its not from us, look for a family owned online reseller and spend the extra $2, youre paying for service and the ability to email and get a response.
Am I right to get a stun gun for protection? My family does not approve.
Whats the right protection for you? Our response on Quora
I’m hesitant to answer this because I know I will be up against responses more than likley telling you the best way to protect yourself is with a gun and this is not 100% true. A gun is for sure the most lethal way to protect yourself and is of course a right we all have that you can purchase whatever you’d like. But for those wanting a non lethal option…lets get into that in a second. We may not always agree but even those who are gun only will also agree that the best way to protect yourself is having good safety habits and practicing awareness. Most guns owners are very disciplined and do everything in their power to avoid ever using it. Which means making smart choices and avoiding potential problems before they happen. Situational awareness, practicing good habits will go a long way before you ever have to use force. Examples but not limited to, a simple trip to the grocery store. Park the car close to the store, go during the day, look around before ever getting out of the car, when you get out have your hands free, your head up looking around where you are and where youre going and eyes off your cell phone. Look like an aware person that has confidence and not a hurried unaware target. Think of Xmas time and you see a mom with her 3 children, packages in her hands, way too much going on to see whats coming? Shes wrangling the kids, trying to see where shes going, then trying to get them all in the car and put everything in the trunk looking down? This is who I would go after. She couldnt pick me out of a line up, shes too busy with kids, hurrying and her gifts. She cant fight back, her arms are full of packages and she isnt even looking up! Shes a target. You will never stop crime or people wanting to take whats yours but you can make their job harder and everyone knows bad guys are lazy. They dont want a fight, have attention drawn to them or any witnesses. Its why professional burglars dont make a jewelry heist during business hours. Everyone will see them! So just simple things like not going to and I will keep the grocery store example going, avoid going places alone. More eyes, more fists, more people that can scream and draw unwanted attention… less likelyhood of being attacked. Again they are lazy and want easy targets.
What I am saying here is of course buy a stun gun if you want, heck I’ll sell you one. It can make you feel safe and provide a non lethal means of self defense but unless you understand you have to hold that against an attacker for 3 to 5 seconds in a physical altercation, know how they work and most of all willing to have it in your hand religiously, always in hand ready to use it… IT WILL DO YOU ZERO GOOD HAVING IT. Kind of like buying a Doberman for protection but never training it to attack, it will just sit there being a family pet. You have to make life changes and bulld habits if you want a stun gun. The first habit is knowing its of no value in a purse or in the trunk of your car. It has to be in your hands or on your hip at all times ready to use. Otherwise think of the police, they carry guns where? on their hip, not in the bottom of a backpack because it will do them do good. Research and learn more about what a stun gun is, what it does and fully understand that it requires up close contact.
Simply buying a stun gun will not make you safe. Here is where as a store owner I am supposed to scare you into buying one and its not what I do or am about. I try and be realistic, we all know there is real danger but we have to know that no one weapon be it a gun, stun gun or even a grenade can protect you from every event.
The best thing anyone can do is take a self defense class and practice good safety techniques in and out of the home. Dont go out alone, at night, always look like a hard target, be aware with your hands always ready to fight and treat every place EVERY place you go no matter how comfortable or familiar as a place where you could be attacked. If every time you went to the Dunkin Donuts a block from the house for coffee you got out of the car like you could be mugged or harmed you will develop the habit of being safer overall. Dont get complacent as this is what the bad guys want and exploit. Be working out possible scenarios everywhere you go. Nobody is saying be paranoid, all I am saying is you have to put aside daily life, bills, politics, your home life, work, and take the seconds it takes to think about your personal safety. Most never do. We live busy lives and are stressed and our heads are full! The same habit to click on Twitter to see whats going on, on your phone…that same habit can be made to protect yourself and be aware, make better decisions as to where you go, how you act when you get there.
I amy have rambled on but I take being safe and getting home to my family seriously each and every day. If you want to buy a stun gun know that it requires up close use and that pepper spray can give you distance protection. A lot of attacks happen from behind making pepper spray a bad choice because it will get all over you if they are that close. So if you were looking all around and could see it coming….being aware…. pepper spray is a great choice because you can put 8–12 feet between you and harm. Its very effective as an escape device. Spray and get away is what its designed for. Not going to go into how pepper spray really works. In fact if you have made up your mind of the stun gun, consider getting both. Pepper spray and a stun gun. . Stun gun being last resort because of the physicality needed and pepper spray being top choice because of its price, ease of use and distance protection. I always suggest if you had to pick just one, Pepper Spray hands down. Its a powerhouse in the size of a keychain that fits in your hand and one the habit of carrying it is developed its the easiest to carry. You can see my other posts of go to the bottom of the home page on our site under . Life long fan of Pepper Spray. I have used both stun gun and pepper spray as well as had both used on me and pepper spray is a (shaking while I type this) nightmare. Its awful and I knew it was coming. So check us out, hope some of this helped.
What is a Diversion Safe
Stun Guns and Tasers whats the difference
How do I get pepper spray off
Decontaminating Pepper Spray
First you should know pepper spray works so well because its oily. With that said oil and water do not mix well. If you do manage to get some pepper spray in your eyes or on your face, do not panic. It will hurt and begin to burn. If you have ever had shampoo in your eyes, you know how it stings, well pepper spray is 100 times that! Do not panic. Do not rub any lotions, salves or creams on the affected area. This will worsen it. The effects of pepper spray last from 20 minutes to 45 minutes plus. So depending on how “affected” you are it could be several minutes before relief sets in. We tell you this because 1. We want you to know the worst to prepare for it. 2. We want you to test fire the spray before being in an attack situation and know the ins and outs. Pepper Spray is derived from cayenne peppers so its hot, but naturally occurring. You will not go blind, so please do not panic. Water, Time, Fresh Air is all you can really do. COOL water, not warm water. Warm water may only intensify the effects. Time, it will disapate with time. Fresh Air. Try and let fresh air get to your eyes to speed up the disappation time. Cold water, a mild soap, fresh air is all you need to decontaminate yourself. DO NOT RUB YOUR EYES!!!! This will only grind in the pepper spray and make it harder to flush out of your eyes. Do not lie down flat or be in a bent over position as breathing may be difficult. Stand outdoors and flush your eyes with cold water. Wash all clothes, hands, and even wipe the canister. Now imagine using this on an attacker who cannot rush to get water? Always test with wind at your back to reduce any potential for wind blowback. Again do not panic, cool water, mild soap, time and fresh air, you will be fine.
Do you stun guns have safety features
Stun Gun – Safety Features
Yes. Nearly every model has either a two position switch that requires you to slide it up 2 clicks before the stun gun is “armed” or they have a disable wrist strap attached to a disabling pin. If the pin is removed or the stun gun is forcibly taken from you while you are wearing the strap, the pin pulls out and the unit deactivates.
Are your stun guns rechargeable
Stun Guns use rechargeable batteries
Our Stun Guns are rechargeable. They either have a built in battery and have their own built in charging prongs OR they come with a cord to plug into your wall. Stun Guns that do require batteries are generally lithium batteries that last several months at a time.
How do I carry a stun gun
Carrying a Stun Gun
Most stun guns are so small you can fit in your front pocket or purse. You want to make sure you have it with you at all times, in your hands, ready to use it. If the stun gun is in the pocket or bottom of your purse, it will not protect you. Most stun guns come with a nylon holster usually with a velcro type closure to keep with you. We also offer and suggest purchasing one of the upgraded leatherette holsters. They have a magnetic closure which allows you draw your stun gun faster. We also suggest not keeping it in the holster when walking to your car, from the store or simply walking your dog. Where do you then keep your stun gun? Simple, in your hand ready, holster it once you get in your car or get safely home
How do I use a Stun Gun
To use a Stun Gun,
Press the electrodes at the end of the stun gun firmly against the attacker. An area best suited to strike is the chest, shoulder area or even the hips. These areas are better than say an arm or leg which can be simply moved and you will have to engage again. Pressure and constant contact must be made. You will have to hold it against the person for the full effect ( 3 to 5 seconds ). You will be much more able to thrust the Stun Gun into the belly or under the armpit (examples) and hold it in there for several seconds. A simple touch will cause pain and often a jerk back motion. Think of walking on the floor in socks building up static electricity and touching something? It makes you jolt and hurts, but doesn’t take you down. Now a simple one second contact with a stun gun is WAAAAAY worse than static electricity keep in mind, only an example to illustrate the point between a quick shock and a full on letting them have it 3 second stun. If you have any questions, please give us a call or email us.
Are Stun Guns Safe
Stun Guns are Non Lethal
Stun guns have been used for many years as have Taser products. Stun guns are deemed non lethal weapons as they do not permanently injure or kill anyone because of the voltage. Stun guns deliver their charge in milliamps far below the amperage that could kill someone. Amperage is what will kill someone. 1 amp can be deadly. High Voltage and low amperage are how stun guns work.

If an attacker is wearing glasses, does pepper spray still work?
Glasses do not stop Pepper Spray
Pepper Spray works even if the attacker is wearing glasses. The goal is to saturate the eyes, however getting the spray at the brow line and under the lenses, the vapor from the pepper spray will still have effect. Facial contact will still at minimum start the coughing, choking and labored breathing effect. Some law enforcement agencies actually train to shoot for the eyebrow area to allow it to run down into the eyes so wearing glasses does not stop pepper spray from working. Especially if you are using a fogger pattern pepper spray, the fog gets inhaled and engulfs the face of an attacker.
Can a Stun Gun Electrocute Me
Stun Guns do not electrocute
No. Contrary to popular belief, voltage isn’t what can kill you, it’s amperage. Stun Guns work on very low amperage but high voltage. The shock is powerful enough to incapacitatebut not enough amperage to be lethal. In fact Stun Guns are rated in milliamps. Stun Guns will not electrocute you or an attacker but if they think that, let them. Any advantage you have, use it. The mere sound of a firing stun gun is sometimes enough to stop an attack.

Best Pepper Spray for Women
The best pepper spray for women would be one thats easy to use and convenient to carry. Pepper spray is effective as a self defense device but only good if you are carrying it when someone attacks you. So to best answer this question it really boils down to the best pepper spray for women would be the one you are carrying at the time. Most pepper spray ends up sitting at the bottom of a purse where it does you no good. Which is why we carry so many different types and styles of pepper spray. We want you to choose the one you will like to carry. Example, if you dont like zebra stripes or pink chances are it will sit in your purse or in a drawer. So the real answer to the question is the best pepper spray is going to be one that fits nicely in your hand, you feel comfortable using and most importantly will carry on a daily basis. For daily carrying we suggest a keychain pepper spray. It will always be on your keys and with you and has a higher chance of being in your hands plus its the most affordable. Pepper Spray vs Stun Gun
What is better Pepper Spray or Stun Gun
This is the most asked question. If we had to pick one or the other, we would say stun gun. Heres why we think a stun gun is better than pepper spray. Keeping in mind they both have different ways that they work and both are viable options for self defense, we can say that a stun gun may be more versatile in real world scenarios. Most attacks on women dont come from 10 to 12 feet away. The majority comes from the side and with a majority of those coming from behind. If someone is close, you cannot use pepper spray on them or you will be covered in it. Have there been times when people up close use pepper spray successfully, yes. But a stun gun, which is designed for up close contact is going to be the best option for the majority of the situations. You need something that allows you to reach over your shoulder or reach behind you, if someone grabs you from behind. Plus unlike pepper spray, stun guns are loud, intimidating and can help draw attention to your situation. In a parking lot for example others may be able to see and hear the blue crackling sparks and hear the loud sound as your fire it. Plus your attacker can also be intimidated by the menacing sound of electicity about to be shoved into them. In some cases, stun guns sound alone has made people stop their attempts. Now if you are situationally aware, have it in your hand and can see the attack coming, pepper spray is your best option because it gives you distance before going hands on. So this is a tough question to answer. Both weapons are effective but have different applications. We suggest carrying both. If you see someone that looks strange and in these cases your gut instinct is most often correct, have the pepper spray ready and you can keep them at bay from 8 to 12 feet away and potentially escape any physicality at all. If you have your stun gun on your hip, draw it an be ready for up close confrontation. That is why you will see some of the combos we have and the new guard dog olympian with is both a pepper spray and stun gun because there is no one weapon that meets every scenario. But if we were to have to give a which one is better, we would be forced to say stun gun because of the up close use and its design. Hope this helps others make a good decision. Choose both, you will give yourself the best chance to protect yourself from a variety of threats.

Usefulness of a traditional flashlight with the bonus protection of a stun gun.
Whats the difference between a personal stun gun and what police carry
Personal Stun Gun vs Taser
Police carry Tasers which are vastly more different than a personal stun gun. A personal stun gun is for self defense and to protect you against attack. A Taser like what police carry is meant to take down a suspect so they can later subdue them. Your goal is personal protection versus taking them into custody. Two very different weapons, to different uses. Not to say a taser cannot be purchase and used for self defense. A personal Taser like what we sell on our site is for self defense and has the power to take down an attacker. However the main goal with either a personal taser or personal stun gun should always escape. Both would be considered defensive weapon and should be used as such. Get the attacker into a position where you can escape. We offer several personal stun guns you can purchase for protection. All of our stun guns are high voltage, rechargeable and simple to operate.
Are Stun Guns rechargeable? Can I use them more than once?
Rechargeable Stun Guns
Yes. All of our stun guns are rechargeable and feature rechargeable batteries so you can use them over and over again. Aside from being rechargeable the majority of our stun guns are equipped with flashlights that serve a dual purpose. You can use the flashlight to temporarily blind an attacker before stunning them or use your stun gun as an every day flashlight on walks through the park.
How do Stun Guns work
Stun Guns – How they work
Stun guns uses high voltage and low amperage to temporarily disable an attacker. The energy stored in stun gun is forced into an attackers muscles causing them to do a great deal of work rapidly to the point the muscles fail. This rapid work cycle instantly depletes the attacker blood sugar by converting it to lactic acid. The stun guns electricity burns the fuel needed for the muscles to sustain the overload they are experiencing. A Stun gun interrupts the neurological signals that control muscle movement and can also along with muscle fatigue cause cause a loss in balance.
When a stun gun probes touch against an attackers body for example a ½ second it will give a shock but milder than for instance a full 1-2 second shock. At a 3-5 second shock, it will cause loss of balance and muscle control, confusion, disorientation. This gives you the critical time needed to escape harm and call for help. Its not a weapon of pain compliance. Its a device to stop their initial intention of harming you and putting yourself in a position of being able to escape. Stun guns cannot shock you. The electricity does not pass through the attacker back to you. The menacing electrical crackle in many instances has been enough to stop an attacker.
What is the best pepper spray pattern for me
Best Pepper Spray Pattern – Choosing the right one
Stream – The most common and widely used. Think of a water gun and how easy it is to aim. If you needed to shoot this out of a car window to someone approaching, or outside, or in windier conditions, you want to use a heavier spray pattern like the stream pattern. It requires more aim than a fogger ( which we will discuss) but best pepper spray pattern for outdoors and taking into consideration wind.
Fog – Think can of hairspray. Wider and much easier to cover a face and eye area which is the ultimate goal. Facial coverage and saturation. Fog pattern is also more easily inhaled which can help speed up the labored breathing result you are hoping to achieve. However fog pattern is not good outdoors. Wind will more easily take it everywhere and runs a higher risk of getting all over you too. Indoors however, example a large volume fogger would be great to fill up a doorway when someone breaks in. Just consider where you will use it most likely and decide if fog spray pattern is right for you.
Gel – Gel is the least contaminating of all the pepper spray patterns. Its thick and sticky so it stays where you spray it. Good for windy conditions and use inside the home especially homes using ceiling fans that can create down draft. Gel sprays much like a standard stream pattern only its thicker and least affected by the wind because of its thickness. Gel however is slighlty more expensive and usually seen in the larger home defense canisters. If cost isnt a factor, gel may be the best investment for you.
Foam– Think of a thick quickly propelled shaving cream. Foam pepper spray covers an attackers face and like gel because its thick doesnt have as much chance of blowing back on you. Its thick, messy and gets all of an attacker. Foam can be pricey like gel however its an investment into your safety so again think of where you will use and buy accordingly.
Spray patterns do play a role in your pepper spray purchase. Think of where you will most likely use and then buy the spray pattern thats right for you. We carry all the spray patterns here so take your time and if you have any addtional questions, email us.
Should I practice using my pepper spray
Pepper Spray – Always practice using it
Yes. You dont want the first time you use it to be under duress. Always practice using your pepper spray before every leaving the house with it. Go on a non windy day, outdoors and set up a cardboard box, paper target and fire a 1 second burst. This will give you at the very least the feel for using it. You should do this once a month, however a minimum do it once. You wouldnt carry a gun without at least firing it once to see if you can hit anything, why wouldnt you do the same with a pepper spray. Its a device to help possibly save your life, practice.
Can I keep pepper spray in my car
Carrying Pepper Spray in your Car
This is a yes and no answer. Yes you can but do not keep in direct sun or prolonged exposure to extreme heat. Example a car in July in Florida is not the place to store a pepper spray. The ingredients more specifically the propellent that forces the pepper spray out of the can can seep out and the seals can loosen in extreme heat. There have been although rare canisters bursting in the heat. You do not want a car full of pepper spray. If you want to carry pepper spray in the car, we do have a 3 pack of pepper shot that has a car visor clip pepper spray that will keep it out of the sun. We still suggest you toss in your purse when not in the car for safety.
Should I test fire my pepper spray
Test Fire your Pepper Spray
Yes. We suggest going outdoors every 90 days or so (making sure your stand upwind) and give a 1/2 second burst to ensure its working. After firing, be sure to wipe your canister with a dry cloth and thouroughly dry the nozzle. After testing be sure to wash your hands with warm soapy water and discard the cloth. When testing be sure you pay close attention to how many times you have test fired it to ensure you have enough spray when you need it for self defense.
How long does pepper spray last
Pepper Spray – Shelf Life
Pepper Spray lasts years. Depending on brand, it can last for 3 to 5 years. Containers have dates on them so you know when to replace. This always has a follow up question, can I use it past the expiration date. Our answer is a firm no. There is no reason to. Its inexpensive and can be bought again easily, why take a chance. Pepper Spray is the most affordable self defense weapon you can buy because of its long shelf life. A $10 keychain pepper spray can last years making it just pennies to have one in your purse. Since we are talking about your life, savings pennies ultimately doesnt make good sense and theres no reason to risk your safety. Do not use past the expiration date. We have plenty of pepper spray under $10 that lasts for years. Its money well spent and a great value.
When do I use my Pepper Spray
Pepper Spray – When to Use
Pepper Spray is to only be used when you are in life threatening danger and for lawful self defense. Use your pepper spray when you are threatened or feel the impending threat of physical harm. Note that it is illegal to use pepper spray for anything other than its intended purpose. Its a self defense weapon with weapon being the operative word here. Use when you need it for self preservation to protect your life or to avoid physical harm. If you can get away without its use, have opportunity to lock your doors, walk into a building and completely avoid a physical situation that of course is always best.
How Does Pepper Spray Work
Pepper Spray – How it works
Pepper spray is made from oleoresin capsicum (OC). OC is derived from hot peppers usually Cayenne peppers. Pepper spray is an inflammatory agent that causes rapid inflmation in the eyes, nasal passages and airways. Most common results of coming in contact with pepper spray are temporary blindness from the rapid and involuntary eye closure, difficulty breathing, and excessive coughing. The skin contacted with pepper spray will also have an intense burning sensation. These effects are temporary generally lasting between 20 and 40 minutes which is why pepper spray is considered non lethal. One of the best reasons to use pepper spray are these effects are not changed whether someone is under the influence of alcohol. The eye closure, difficulty breathing are all affected even if someone is intoxicated. Please note as we mention this on other questions, these inflamatory effects are what give you time to escape harm. While your attacker is temporarily blind and having trouble breathing, you get to safety. Do not confuse pain and inflamatory. The pain is not what will help you escape, its the rapid closing of the attackers eyes, labored breathing they werent expecting when choosing you as a target that will get you a change to fight a way out and get to safety.
Can I carry Pepper Spray everywhere?
Pepper Spray – Where to carry it
No. There are restrictions. You cannot carry pepper spray on an airplane. Currently TSA will allow if sealed AND in checked luggage however we suggest checking before making any travel arrangements as their policies change frequently. Most State and Federal buildings do not allow you to carry a pepper spray into the building.
Is Pepper Spray Legal
Pepper Spray – Legal in all 50 states
Yes. Pepper Spray is legal in some fashion in every state. However there are restrictions as to size, who can sell it to you, where you can buy it from and even in some states labeling guidelines for the manufacturer selling it in your state. Before buying any pepper spray, consult local, state or federal law enforcement to ensure you are in compliance with any and all laws. Though things change frequently, you can check our shipping policy page to see where for certain we do no sell or offer pepper spray sales. Be sure to check this prior to ordering. If you should order and be in a state where we do not sell we will refund your money and simply cancel your order. States where we do not sell pepper spray currently. Alaska, Washington D.C., HawaiiI, llinois, New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts, Michigan, WisconsinBe sure to only use approved self defense spray for its intended purpose, lawful self defense.
What size pepper spray should I buy
Pepper Spray – What size to buy
The size of the pepper spray you should buy will be based on where you will use it. For most a large pepper spray in the house and a keychain pepper spray to carry outside the house is ideal. You want a large pepper spray for example a 4 ounce fogger or 1 lb home defense model to keep near the door or on your nightstand. But for carrying in your pocket or purse you probably want a keychain pepper spray thats easy and lightweight to carry with you. Just consider the spray pattern. Fogger is the best for quickly covering the face and is the best under stress as its easier to cover your target but not best for outdoors because of wind. So look at whether its a stream pattern or fog, consider gel for indoors as its less messy and buy based on where you will most likely use it.
Is your pepper spray police grade or police strength
About Police Pepper Spray
Yes. In fact our pepper spray is even stronger than police pepper spray. Why? Because police use pepper spray to subdue a subject and take them into custody. Civilians use pepper spray for self defense and are using it to stop an attack and escape. So civilian pepper spray is actually made to be stronger. Example, some police spray is 5% and many are even lower than this where the minimum standard for self defense pepper spray is 10% because it has to be stronger. Police grade pepper spray is a marketing phrase because its simply easier to call something police grade than to explain a paragraph like we did here. So yes, all of our pepper sprays are police strength, police grade and even stronger. Which is why you will see every pepper spray on nearly every site labeled somthing like law enforcement grade, police strenght or similiar. Its to let consumers know its strong enough to use for personal protection without having to explain in great detail why. Its a common question so we though it should be addressed. Mace, Pepper Shot, Wildfire, Guard Dog all would be considered police strength pepper sprays as they range from 10% to 18% strength.
What is the best pepper spray to buy
Best Pepper Spray – Where to buy it, what to look for
The best pepper spray to buy is the one you will most likely carry. By that we mean buy a pepper spray that you know you will carry every single day in your hand every time you leave the house. If you dont like the color pink chances are it will remain at the bottom of your purse doing you no good the one time you need it. As for what to look for in a pepper spray, look for ones made in the USA to start with. Any pepper spray with a 10% of higher formula is considered police grade. We offer all the way up to 18%. Ask yourself a few questions before buying a pepper spray. Where will I most likely use this pepper spray? Example, if you are outdoors you want a stream pattern pepper spray to carry with you. Using it indoors you may want to use a fogger to cover the largest area or a gel to cause the least amount of mess. Consider size. Most keychains will suffice for to and from the car at work but for home protection you may want a 4 ounce or larger. If you are active outdoors, buy a jogger pepper spray that has a handy carrying strap. Just think before you buy, consider where you will using it, buy from a website that only offers made in the USA sprays from top selling brands and buying the right pepper spray will be easy. If you have any questions or help choosing, use our contact page and we will gladly help you choose.
How Does Pepper Spray Work
Pepper Spray – How it works
Pepper Spray works by causing accute inflamation of the mucous membranes. Sounds scientific right? The inflamatory properties of pepper spray when they contact wet areas, eyes, nasal passages, the make them swell up quickly is what that all really means. So when you spray OC which is the shortened name of Oleresin Capsicum ( the actually chemical name we all know as simply pepper spray) the tiny particles which are oily make contact with the eyes and immediately cause a reaction. This reaction is a painful and involuntary swelling. See any photo of someone being sprayed with OC Pepper Spray and see how read they are? The capilaries in the eyes swell and the brain naturally makes you “protect” them by closing them. The airways, lungs, nasal passages oh it does the same thing there too. You nose clogs, your lungs tighten. You are in seconds unable to see and have difficulty breathing. This intensifies by the second in all areas. Note there is no mention of pain. This is important to know about the inflamatory properties as this is the best and main reason why buying a pepper spray for self defense makes sense. You take away sight and cause labored breathing. Hard to keep fighting you if you cant see or breath. It temporarily weakens an attacker while you escape. If you read other questions on our site we stress one thing. Escape. Use pepper spray to stop an attackers initial attempt at harming you and escape. Pepper spray buys you time. You shouldnt expect anything more of it. Now, pain. Yes there is intense pain. usually within 15 to 30 seconds an intense burning sets in. Some have compared this to sticking their face in a bee hive while others describe it as a bad sunburn. Neither of which will stop an attacker. Pain is subjective. Focus on the inflamatory properties, the eye closure and labored breathing it causes. So when someone now asks you how does pepper spray work, you tell them: It lessens my attackers ability to see and breathe so I have a slight advantage and time to escape harm.
Is Pepper Spray Effective
Pepper Spray – Effectiveness
Yes. Thats the simple answer. Pepper Spray is an effective self defense weapon with a high success rate of stopping assailants. If you take one thing from this website, understand this, Pepper Spray is highly effective, if you know what it does and how to best use it for self defense. Weve all seen the movies and sit coms that show someone falling down screaming when sprayed with pepper spray. This is not reality. In fact in a real life situation pepper spray doesnt knock most people down at all. You have to use pepper spray as a distaction device and life saving device that helps you escape. Again, pepper spray is to be used as an escape device, not an offensive weapon.
Think of pepper spray as a hot cup of coffee. If its all you had in your hand when attacked and tossed a hot cup of coffee into the face and eyes of an attacker, what would they do? They would immediately stop grabbing you and grab their face. Its human nature. Panic and self preservation sets in. It wouldnt knock them to the ground, or give you 30 minutes to fight them or use your karate skills. You would push them off while they are distracted by this and run! That is how you use your pepper spray for it to be most effective. Spray into the eyes and saturate their face and be prepared to run for help. Pepper Spray is an inflamatory agent that swells and slams shut the eyes of an attacker. Its not a bullet or anything more than a defensive weapon. Its so important people understand this and use this mindset when the buy pepper spray. Yes in advance to answer the follow up question there is pain. However pain is subjective and comes in many cases 15 to 30 seconds later. You are not relying on pepper spray for its pain properties, you are using to like my analogy of the hot cup of cofee, splash the pepper spray into the eyes, causing temporary blindness, involutary eye closure, panic and the seconds needed to kick or push away and get out of reach of the person trying to cause you harm. Pepper Spray is the element of surprise that takes away an attackers main asset, their vision. If they cannot open their eyes you have an advantage. The advantage of precious seconds to escape to live another day. Its spray and get away.
If you know what pepper spray does, how to use it and why you are using it, it is a highly effective means of self defense.
